- Dual-band Wi-Fi hardware supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.

- A microSD card is not supplied in the box and must be purchased separately for local recording.
- Battery replenishment depends heavily on direct sunlight, which can decline in shaded locations or during winter.
The Connect SmartHome 2K Outdoor Camera with Solar Panel (CSH-2KODC-904) is a wire-free outdoor surveillance camera sold through Australian retailers including JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys. Connect SmartHome states that the unit combines 2K QHD video capture (2560 × 1440) with an external 3W solar panel to maintain power for its built-in 6600mAh rechargeable battery. It features an IP65 weatherproof rating, two-way audio, an integrated siren, and a PIR motion sensor with human body detection up to 8 metres. Video can be recorded directly to an optional microSD card up to 256GB without requiring a paid cloud subscription plan.
Who it suits
This unit suits Australian homeowners and renters looking for an outdoor camera that eliminates the need for mains electrical cabling or frequent trips up a ladder to recharge. Because it connects over both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequencies, it suits homes with standard dual-band routers where separating network bands can sometimes be cumbersome. It also suits households using Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to display live camera feeds on smart displays.
Buyers who require smooth high-frame-rate capture may want to look elsewhere, as retail specifications state the video recording is capped at 15 frames per second. It should also be skipped by anyone running Apple Home, Matter, Samsung SmartThings, or Home Assistant, as retailer listings confirm these ecosystems are not supported. Furthermore, properties lacking a clear north-facing or sunlit mounting location may struggle to keep the battery charged via the 3W panel alone, necessitating occasional manual recharging via USB-C.
Australian notes
Retailers list the CSH-2KODC-904 with a 2-year manufacturer warranty in Australia. Because the system runs on battery power topped up by the bundled solar panel via USB-C, it avoids mains voltage and requires no licensed electrical work to install. However, renters should check their residential tenancy agreement and relevant state tenancy authority before drilling mounting holes into external brick or cladding. Additionally, when angling the 100-degree field of view, homeowners should check their state surveillance device legislation regarding capturing footage of neighbouring properties or public pathways.
