The Samsung SmartThings Station (model EP-P9500) is a hybrid smart home hub and wireless charging pad. According to Samsung specifications, the unit functions as an automation controller equipped with Zigbee 3.0, Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2, and Matter controller capabilities, while also serving as a Thread Border Router. Alongside its smart home radios, the flat surface acts as a 15W Qi-certified wireless charging pad. It features an integrated physical button to run custom routines and includes a SmartThings Find scanner designed to detect registered Galaxy devices and SmartTags within the home. The device requires no paid subscription, operating through the standard SmartThings app.
Who it suits
This unit suits Samsung Galaxy owners who want to unify Matter, Thread, and Zigbee accessories without adding a purely utilitarian hub to a shelf or desk. Because it serves as a tabletop charger, it fits neatly into bedside or office setups. Users invested in the SmartThings ecosystem will appreciate the physical button for triggering automations—such as winding down bedroom lighting via a single press, double press, or long press. However, households with existing Z-Wave hardware should skip this product, as it does not include Z-Wave connectivity. Users who insist on a wired Ethernet connection for hub reliability should also look elsewhere, as the Station relies entirely on Wi-Fi. Additionally, households using iPhones or other non-Samsung devices will see wireless charging speeds capped at standard rates rather than the full 15W, and certain onboarding and tracking features depend on a Galaxy phone.
Australian notes
Australian buyers should be aware that Samsung never officially distributed the SmartThings Station locally. Samsung Newsroom Australia previously stated local availability was unconfirmed, and major Australian electronics retailers do not stock the unit. Any hardware available in Australia comes via third-party grey-market importers or online marketplaces. Consequently, there is no official Samsung Australia manufacturer warranty backing the product.
Imported packages generally include an overseas wall charger (such as a US two-prong adapter) or arrive without a power brick entirely. Samsung notes that enabling 15W wireless charging requires a 25W or higher USB Power Delivery (PD) charger over USB-C, so Australian users will need to supply their own compliant local USB-PD wall adapter. The Station connects to dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. It links to Google Home, Alexa, and Home Assistant through SmartThings integration or Matter sharing, but it cannot be added directly to Apple Home as a bridge.
