The TP-Link Tapo C610 KIT is an outdoor wire-free security camera package featuring a motorised pan-and-tilt camera unit and an external Tapo A201 solar panel. According to TP-Link Australia, the camera records in 2K 3MP resolution (2304 × 1296) and uses a 6,500 mAh internal rechargeable battery charged via an external USB-C solar panel. The camera provides 340° horizontal pan and 90° vertical tilt, allowing 360° visual coverage across an outdoor space. Night footage is handled either via traditional black-and-white infrared LEDs up to 10 metres or in full colour using dual integrated white spotlights. An IP65 weatherproof casing protects the unit against rain and dust.
Who it suits
This kit suits users who need broad outdoor area coverage without running mains electrical cabling to eaves or garden posts. Because the solar panel includes a 4-metre extension cable, the panel can be positioned in clear sunlight while keeping the camera shaded under a verandah. Renters and homeowners who prefer avoiding monthly cloud fees will appreciate that local storage is supported via a microSD card slot accommodating cards up to 512 GB (card sold separately). Features such as on-device AI person detection, automatic tracking, two-way audio, and custom sirens function out of the box without a Tapo Care plan.
However, it will not suit users seeking continuous 24/7 surveillance or integration into a local Network Attached Storage (NAS) system. To preserve battery power, TP-Link confirms the unit sleeps between events, which disables continuous recording and ONVIF or RTSP streams. It also lacks compatibility with Apple Home, Matter, and Home Assistant.
Australian notes
The Tapo C610 KIT connects strictly to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks (802.11b/g/n), meaning dual-band home routers common across Australia must have a 2.4 GHz band active. Voice control and live feeds are supported across Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa smart displays.
TP-Link covers the product with a 1-year limited warranty in Australia, which sits alongside statutory guarantees provided by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). When installing the camera and aiming its pan-and-tilt lens, be aware of surveillance and privacy regulations regarding neighbouring properties and public footpaths; check your state or territory privacy laws before mounting. If attaching the solar panel or camera bracket to rented property, check your state tenancy legislation regarding wall fixings.
