The Arlec 9W 92mm Grid Connect Smart RGB+CCT LED Downlight (model ALD295HA) is an indoor ceiling light fitted with a 100° beam flushed lens. It delivers up to 740 lumens of output and combines full RGB colour options with adjustable white colour temperatures between 3000K and 6500K. For manual configuration, Arlec includes a physical switch on the side of the housing to set a default colour temperature prior to fitting. The unit operates via 220–240V AC power and includes an internal driver that Arlec and Bunnings note is dimmable through the smartphone app as well as compatible with trailing-edge and universal wall dimmers.
Who it suits
This downlight suits households already using or planning to build an ecosystem around the Grid Connect platform, which is distributed locally through retailers like Bunnings, Big W, and Woolworths. Because it links with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, it also fits users operating those voice assistants who want scheduling, scenes, and colour adjustments without paying ongoing subscription fees.
It is well suited to rooms requiring standard 92 mm ceiling cut-outs where existing recessed sockets are installed. However, households reliant on Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, or Matter will need to look elsewhere, as official support for these platforms is omitted. Those who require directional task lighting should also skip this model, as the flushed lens is fixed and cannot be swivelled. Additionally, users on mesh or combined Wi-Fi networks may need to separate their bands, as Grid Connect confirms pairing requires a 2.4 GHz network.
Australian notes
The downlight comes pre-wired with an Australian standard flex lead and plug, allowing simple connection if an existing ceiling plug base is present. However, if new wiring or ceiling sockets must be installed, check your state's electrical safety regulator regarding mandatory requirements for a licensed electrician.
For Australian ceiling cavities, Arlec lists an IC-4 rating, indicating that the fitting can abut or be covered by building insulation. The light carries an IP44 water-ingress rating for the section exposed below the ceiling, making it suitable for standard indoor residential spaces, while the portion above the ceiling is IP20. Standard statutory consumer guarantees apply under Australian Consumer Law, as Arlec does not specify a separate manufacturer warranty period for this unit.
