Breville Smart Air Viral Protect Night Glow Purifier

The Breville Smart Air Viral Protect Night Glow Purifier is a compact tabletop air purifier designed for smaller rooms. According to Breville, it delivers a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 110 m³/h and is suitable for rooms up to 28 square metres, such as bedrooms, nurseries, and study spaces. It relies on a three-stage filter cartridge combining a pre-filter for dust and pet hair, an AntiViral HEPA-13 filter rated to capture 99.97% of fine particles down to 0.3 microns, and an activated carbon layer to absorb odours. The unit also includes a built-in multi-colour nightlight managed via the Breville Home Connect mobile app, three manual fan speeds, an eight-hour timer, and an aroma tray for essential oils.

Who it suits

This unit suits individuals wanting a low-draw appliance for a bedside table or home office desk. Operating at 12 watts, the purifier draws minimal power. The instruction manual notes noise levels start at 26 dB(A) on its quietest setting, making it suitable for overnight bedroom use where louder fans might disturb sleep. It also fits users who already rely on Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for voice commands, as both platforms are supported through the Breville Home Connect integration without ongoing subscription fees.

Conversely, buyers seeking an autonomous unit that ramps up speed when dust or smoke levels spike should look elsewhere. The instruction manual confirms the LAP168 does not include an onboard PM2.5 particle sensor or an automatic mode, meaning fan speeds must be adjusted manually or scheduled through the app. It is also unsuitable for larger open-plan living areas given its 110 m³/h CADR rating. Smart-home users who manage their devices through Apple Home, Matter, or SmartThings will need to look at alternatives, as native integration is absent.

Australian notes

The purifier is supplied with a standard Australian 240V plug and operates on 220–240 V AC at 50 Hz. Setting up smart features requires a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, as 5 GHz bands are not supported. Breville backs the product with a two-year manufacturer warranty in Australia.

While the purifier carries Sensitive Choice certification from the National Asthma Council Australia, retailer and manufacturer documentation notes that adding essential oils or scents to the integrated aromatherapy tray voids this approval. Replacement filter cartridges (model LAP010) cannot be washed and need replacing roughly every 6 to 12 months, with an onboard indicator to signal when a replacement is required.
