The Sensibo Sky is an external climate controller designed to add Wi-Fi connectivity and automation to existing air conditioning systems. According to Sensibo's documentation, the unit is compatible with split systems, window units, and portable heat pumps that communicate via an infrared remote control. Measuring 82.5 mm by 57 mm, the module contains dual infrared transmitters, a temperature sensor, and a relative humidity sensor. It operates by transmitting standard remote commands, allowing users to adjust temperatures, operating modes, and fan speeds through the Sensibo mobile app or linked voice platforms.
Who it suits
This device suits renters and homeowners who want app-based control and scheduling for an existing air conditioner without altering the cooling unit itself or replacing functional hardware. Because the unit transmits infrared signals externally, it requires no modifications to the appliance. It is also suitable for households operating Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Samsung SmartThings setups that need automated temperature triggers or voice control. However, Apple Home users should note that the Sensibo Sky does not feature native Apple HomeKit support; Sensibo specifies that native HomeKit is reserved for other models such as the Sensibo Air, leaving the Sky limited to Siri Shortcuts. Those looking for completely offline, local smart-home control should also look elsewhere, as the unit relies on Sensibo cloud servers to process commands.
Australian notes
Australian retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Bunnings, Officeworks, and The Good Guys supply the Sensibo Sky with a standard Australian 240V wall power adapter and a Micro-USB cable. The device requires continuous mains power to operate, as it contains no internal backup battery.
Network connectivity is restricted to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), meaning dual-band routers may need to broadcast a dedicated 2.4 GHz band during pairing. Because the controller relies entirely on infrared communication, it must be mounted within an unobstructed line of sight to the air conditioner's receiver at a distance of up to six metres. Each separate indoor unit requires its own individual Sensibo controller. Australian retail listings confirm a standard 12-month replacement warranty. Renters should check their tenancy agreement regarding wall-mounting fixings or adhesive pads before mounting the unit permanently.
