Doesn't Work

Completely broken, refuses to connect to wifi due to both extremely outdated technology and broken firmware. Don't bother buying this one.

Best for: Australian renters and homeowners seeking a battery-powered 2K video doorbell with subscription-free local microSD storage and Google Home or Alexa compatibility.
The TP-Link Tapo D205 is a wireless video doorbell mini designed for residential front-door monitoring. According to TP-Link Australia, the unit features a 2K (3MP / 2304 × 1296) camera sensor with a 160-degree diagonal field of view, two-way audio with noise cancellation, and an IP54 weather-resistance rating. It is powered by an internal 5,200 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery that charges through a USB Type-C port, with TP-Link rating battery life at up to 180 days depending on usage. Night monitoring relies on 850 nm infrared illumination up to 7.6 metres, delivering black-and-white video footage.
According to the product specifications, the Tapo D205 suits households looking for front-door security without mandatory cloud subscription fees. TP-Link states that core features—such as live viewing, two-way voice calls, AI person detection, and motion-activated clip recording—operate locally using an onboard microSD card slot supporting capacities up to 512 GB (card sold separately). Because the unit runs entirely on battery power and mounts without mains wiring, it is well suited for renters who cannot modify existing electrical setups. If you rent, check your tenancy agreement and relevant state residential tenancy guidelines before attaching hardware to external walls or doors.
Conversely, buyers wanting continuous 24/7 recording or a direct hardwired connection to an existing 8–24V AC transformer should skip this model, as TP-Link documentation confirms it only records motion events and cannot be wired to an existing chime circuit. It is also unsuitable for Apple HomeKit or Matter environments, though it links with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. In addition, households without an Amazon Echo or Google Nest smart speaker will need to factor in a separate chime solution, as TP-Link does not bundle an internal ringer in the box.
TP-Link supplies the Tapo D205 in Australia through retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys, where listings confirm a two-year manufacturer warranty. The doorbell operates exclusively on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks (IEEE 802.11b/g/n), meaning your home router must have an active 2.4 GHz band. Because it is battery-powered and charges via standard USB-C, no fixed mains electrical work is involved during installation. TP-Link also lists compatibility with its optional A200, A201, and A202 solar panels for outdoor trickle-charging. When positioning the camera to monitor front accessways, ensure the viewing angle complies with local privacy and surveillance device legislation in your state or territory.

It's good, has a wide fish eye, but doesn't reach the ground close to the door. Not able to adjust it to do that.
