The TP-Link Tapo B22 Multicolour Bulb series, which includes the Tapo L530B and Tapo L535B models, provides Wi-Fi-connected ambient lighting for standard Australian fittings. According to TP-Link Australia, both models use an A60 bulb profile with a B22 bayonet base and run directly over Wi-Fi without an external hub. The L530B model provides up to 806 lumens with an 8.7 W power draw and a 15,000-hour rated lifespan. The L535B model delivers up to 1,055 lumens at 8.6 W, has a 25,000-hour rated lifespan, and adds integrated energy monitoring. Both options support 16 million colours, white colour temperature tuning between 2,500 K and 6,500 K, and dimming from 1% to 100% via software.
Who it suits
This bulb suits occupants looking for colour-changing lighting in fixtures that accept B22 bayonet globes. Because installation involves simply replacing an existing bayonet bulb, it suits renters wanting to avoid permanent modifications; tenants should check their tenancy agreement before replacing landlord-supplied fixtures. It also fits households running Amazon Alexa or Google Home ecosystems. For users committed to Apple Home, the L535B variant is the relevant choice because it includes Matter certification, whereas the standard L530B does not support Apple Home directly. However, those with existing in-wall dimmer switches should skip this product, as TP-Link states it cannot be used with physical wall dimmers. It is also unsuitable for outdoor garden fittings or exposed wet areas.
Australian notes
According to TP-Link Australia, these bulbs are designed for domestic 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz power supplies. Swapping a standard light bulb does not involve electrical work, but changing hardwired wall switches or batten holders is generally work for a licensed electrician; check your state's electrical safety regulator. Both models require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (802.11b/g/n) and will not connect to 5 GHz bands. TP-Link Australia provides a two-year limited warranty on Tapo smart lighting, though retailer listings such as Officeworks list a 12-month manufacturer warranty. Controlling the bulb, setting schedules, and updating firmware do not require a paid subscription.
