The iRobot Roomba Combo i5+ (model i557800) is a hybrid robot vacuum and mop paired with an automatic emptying station. According to iRobot Australia, the cleaner operates a 4-Stage Cleaning System combining dual multi-surface rubber brushes, an edge-sweeping brush, and power-lifting suction. To switch from standard vacuuming to simultaneous vacuuming and mopping on hard floors, users must manually exchange the standard 389 ml dustbin for the Roomba Combo bin, which contains a 276 ml dry debris capacity alongside a 210 ml water reservoir and an attachable microfibre mopping pad.
Who it suits
This system suits households dominated by sealed hard floors—such as timber, tiles, or laminate—where hands-off dry vacuuming is the primary cleaning priority. iRobot states that the included Clean Base holds up to 60 days of dry debris in enclosed AllergenLock bags, letting owners automate daily dust collection for weeks without handling dirt bins. It also fits pet owners, as the dual rubber brushes are designed to maintain contact across surfaces without tangling hair as readily as traditional bristle rollers.
Conversely, homes featuring widespread floor rugs, carpets, or high-clutter layouts may find the cleaning workflow inconvenient. Because the robot cannot automatically lift its mopping pad or detect carpets during damp runs, iRobot notes that rugs must be rolled up or rooms manually closed off to stop them getting wet. Furthermore, specifications confirm the i5+ does not support custom in-app Keep-Out Zones or No-Mop Zones. Floor hazards like stray phone cables and pet messes must be cleared beforehand, as the unit relies on reactive physical bump and optical tracking rather than front-facing AI camera recognition.
Australian notes
According to iRobot Australia and local retailer specifications, the Roomba Combo i5+ includes an Australian standard 3-pin plug and an approximately 1.8-metre power cord designed for local 220–240V mains power. For app setup, the robot requires a dedicated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection, as 5 GHz bands are unsupported.
In terms of smart platform integration, the i5+ connects directly with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for voice scheduling. Apple Home is not natively supported, though basic Siri Shortcuts can be configured through the iRobot Home app, and community-verified local integration is available for Home Assistant. The machine does not require an ongoing subscription to access mapping or schedules. iRobot provides a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty, which applies alongside statutory consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
