The Narwal Freo X Ultra (model YJCC015) is a hybrid robot vacuum and mop backed by an automated maintenance dock. Unlike typical robot cleaner docks that rely on a loud secondary suction motor to extract dust into an external dock bag, Narwal handles debris management directly inside the robot. The vacuum uses an onboard dust compression system that supports either disposable HEPA filter bags or a washable plastic bin, with the manufacturer stating it stores up to seven weeks of dry waste. For mopping, the machine employs dual rotating pads, a wall-hugging movement Narwal calls Smart EdgeSwing, and an optical DirtSense system that analyses wastewater clarity during pad washing to decide whether floors require a second pass. The dock washes the pads with automatically metered detergent and dries them with heated air.
Who it suits
According to Narwal, the Freo X Ultra is tailored primarily for pet owners and households with mixed hard floors and carpets. The manufacturer highlights an SGS- and TÜV-certified floating roller brush specifically designed to prevent long hair and pet fur from tangling around the spindle, guiding strands directly into the dust pathway. Buyers who dislike the sudden, loud noise of conventional dock auto-empty motors will also find the onboard compression design appealing, as dry dust remains contained on the robot until you dispose of it.
However, households wanting a dock that fully evacuates dust out of the robot into a separate base station container should consider alternative designs. If you run Apple Home, Matter or SmartThings, check the Narwal app for current support first: Narwal's own pages list only Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Furthermore, homes with thick, high-pile carpets may find the mop pad lift clearance insufficient, requiring manual no-mop zone boundaries in the app.
Australian notes
Distributed through major national retailers including JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, and Bing Lee, the Australian Freo X Ultra model (YJCC015) includes a power cable and carries a two-year manufacturer warranty. Wi-Fi connectivity operates exclusively on the 2.4 GHz band, meaning households with dual-band mesh networks may need to isolate or pause the 5 GHz band during initial device pairing. Replacement consumables—including official disposable dust bags, mop pads, and replacement detergent bottles—are sold locally through Australian retailers and Narwal's Australian storefront.
