The Nanoleaf Essentials Matter LED Lightstrip (2m) is an indoor accent lighting strip that relies on Matter over Thread rather than standard Wi-Fi. It measures two metres in length, can be cut at designated markings, and can be extended up to 10 metres. According to manufacturer specifications reported by Crutchfield and PCWorld, the strip produces up to 2,200 lumens of maximum output (2,000 lumens average) using RGBCW LEDs. This diode layout provides 16 million colours alongside dedicated white light spectrum adjustments ranging from 2700K warm white to 6500K cool white. For local adjustments without a smartphone, it includes an inline physical controller on the cable for toggling power, adjusting brightness levels, and cycling through lighting scenes.
Who it suits
This lightstrip suits households running multi-platform environments that already have a Thread border router in place, such as an Apple TV 4K, Apple HomePod, Google Nest Hub, or compatible SmartThings hub. Because it supports the Matter standard natively over Thread, it integrates directly with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant without needing a brand-specific bridge. It is also well suited for users seeking bright, tunable white lighting under kitchen cabinets or behind desks, where clean task lighting is prioritised.
However, buyers looking for dynamic gradient effects or animated multi-colour chases should skip this model. Android Authority notes that the hardware uses single-zone LEDs, meaning the entire strip displays only one solid colour at any given moment. Furthermore, households without a Thread border router will be limited to short-range Bluetooth control via the Nanoleaf app, which lacks remote out-of-home access.
Australian notes
Australian retail packaging includes a 100–240V AC-to-DC 30W power supply fitted with an Australian Type I plug, requiring a standard indoor wall socket rather than hardwired mains electrical work. Because it is a plug-in low-voltage fixture, no licensed electrician is required for installation. If you are renting and mounting the strip using the adhesive backing, check your tenancy agreement regarding surface modifications and potential paint damage before sticking it to plasterboard walls.
Nanoleaf Australia provides a two-year limited hardware warranty on the Essentials range, in addition to standard statutory rights under Australian Consumer Law. The lightstrip is strictly unrated for outdoor exposure and must be kept indoors.
