The Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus 2m Base V4 is an indoor, flexible LED strip designed for accent and task illumination behind desks, under cabinetry, or along architectural recesses. According to Philips Hue Australia, the base unit measures two metres, outputs between 1,600 and 1,700 lumens, and supports 16 million colours alongside an adjustable white spectrum from 2,000 K to 6,500 K. It mounts using an adhesive tape backing and runs from an included plug-in power pack. The manufacturer confirms this model is not a gradient strip, meaning it displays only one solid colour across its entire length at any given time.
Who it suits
This strip suits homeowners and renters who need dependable, high-output accent lighting. Philips Hue states the strip can be cut along marked lines for shorter runs and reattached to offcuts using the included connector clip. Extension strips can extend the overall length up to 10 metres. Because it plugs into an ordinary wall socket and adheres to clean surfaces, it avoids the need for hardwired electrical work. However, renters should check their tenancy agreement before mounting strong adhesive to delicate paintwork or finished timber surfaces.
Those looking for dynamic multi-colour effects or chasing lights should skip this model in favour of individually addressable alternatives. It also has trade-offs for users without an existing Hue Bridge. While the strip features Bluetooth Low Energy for quick setup, Philips Hue notes that Bluetooth control is confined to short in-room range and a maximum of 10 lights. Users who want out-of-home control, advanced automation, or Apple Home support will need a separate Hue Bridge. Existing Hue owners expanding an older installation should also note that the V4 pins do not mate with legacy V3 extensions.
Australian notes
Australian retail listings, including Jaycar and Harvey Norman, confirm the Lightstrip Plus V4 includes an Australian-compatible 240 V AC to 24 V DC plug pack adapter. The product carries a standard two-year Australian warranty.
The lightstrip does not have onboard Wi-Fi hardware, so it will not congest your 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi network. Instead, it relies purely on Bluetooth Low Energy and Zigbee. For integration, Matter and Apple Home are available via the Philips Hue Bridge, while Google Home and Amazon Alexa can connect either directly over Bluetooth or through the Bridge. Home Assistant users can integrate the strip via the official Hue Bridge integration or pair it directly to a local Zigbee coordinator.
